Sleeping Platform

Sleeping Platform

Sleeping Platform Project

The second large project for my trip is a sleeping platform for the back of my truck. As you can see it is a simple build. Consisting of a 2×6, 2×2’s and 3/4′ sanded plywood. Up front will be two lockable storage compartments for my extra accessory battery and vehicle equipment that’s not being used very often such as jumper cables, DC utility light and other useful items for maintenance. I’ll update as I use the softopper sleeping platform.

Well, I have used the topper on 3 great trips so far and my overall thoughts on the softopper and the sleeping platform combination are outstanding. It has worked according to expectations. The convenience of having a lockable storage system and a place to crash with out having to set up anything has worked out perfectly. Of course there is a space issue while moving around in back, but it’s not for moving around in, it’s for sleeping. So I am happy with it. It’s a great alternative to a tent when needed.

How’s this coming along? I’ve got a ’15 Tacoma I’m working on designing a platform for and would love to hear how yours is going.

I’ve added some more photos of the completed platform. The setup works great. There is a separate lockable storage area up front, large enough for my extra battery when I get it. It will be on a chargeable isolation circut. Vist my softopper post as well as my Builds – toyota mods – platform page.
Thank you for your interest Paul.
Let me know how I can help.

Nice man, looks great. I really like how you did the locking “door” on to keep things protected by the tailgate.

I also Installed a locking tailgate handle/latch. I don’t know if Toyota has added them to there line of Tacoma’s yet. You can get it on Amazon. Best of luck with your build Paul.
